During the three months to December, the number of UK unemployed increased 48,000. Going into 2012, 2.67 million UK residents were jobless. This is the highest unemployment figure in 16 years.
According to the Office for National Statistics, the unemployment rate is now 8.4 percent. In this sector, having a larger number definitely does not make a region a winner.
In January, the number of UK citizens claiming the Jobseeker’s Allowance increased by 6,900 to 1.6 million. This was the eleventh month in a row that an increase occurred.
Particularly concerning to the government is unemployment among UK youths because 1.04 million unemployed residents are age 16 to 24. In another trend, many women have been claiming the Jobseeker’s Allowance.
Though an additional 22,000 people joined the unemployment ranks
